Overview

Description: The fruits of the Babassu palm look like small coconuts, which grow in clusters of a few dozens up to several hundreds. The fruits grow ripe between August and January, and the local population collects them when fallen from the trees. For many, the Babassu is a “Tree of Life” because it is, in general, their only source of income. In order to reach the oil-containing core, the fruit needs to be cracked, which is laboriously as the Babassu nuts are known for being the  world’s hardest nuts.

The oil extracted from the core is used traditionally as edible oil. Babussu oil looks much like coconut oil due to its high level of lauric acid and myristic acid. Therefore it is used for the production of soap as well.

Babassu-oil provides a good, hard and foaming soap.

Babassu oil is a clear/clear yellow solid oil or butter that melts by a temperature of +/- 26 degrees Celsius.

Babassu oil belongs to the drying oils and is used in aromatic therapy, pure or in a mixture, for: sensitive and dry skin, damaged skin, eczema, quickly irritated skin and split and dry hair. Babassu oil blends easily with etheric oils and other basic oils.

Product information: Due to the low melting temperature this product will be filled in bottles in the summer period. This will avoid leaking. If the product starts to congeal afterwards it can be melted easily in a pan with water on a very low level of heat. The water temperature must be around 40 degrees.

Production: Expeller pressed (60-95 °C), filtered, refined.
